Winemaker Notes

Domaine La Denante presents its 2024 Saint-Véran, a dry white wine from the eponymous appellation located in the Mâconnais region of southern Burgundy. According to available information, this wine is made primarily, if not exclusively, from Chardonnay, the region's emblematic grape variety. The fresh and recent 2024 vintage suggests a youthful wine, likely offering a lovely vivacity, with notes of citrus, white flowers, white-fleshed fruit, and fresh almond, typical of the Saint-Véran style. Vinification in tanks or barrels, according to the estate's philosophy, can impart either mineral tension, a touch of roundness, or toasty nuances.

The Saint-Véran vineyards extend across rich clay-limestone soils, deposited at the foot of the Mâconnais hills. The region enjoys a semi-continental climate, combining Burgundian freshness with more southern influences, ideal for the pure expression of Chardonnay. Historically, the Mâconnais occupies a unique place in Burgundy: less opulent than the Côte de Beaune, it offers straightforward, expressive wines, perfect to enjoy in their youth or after a few years of aging.

This dry Saint-Véran pairs beautifully with refined yet simple cuisine. It will enhance grilled or lightly sauced fish, scallops, chicken breast with cream sauce, or a fresh vegetable terrine. It will also be a wonderful match for Burgundian specialties such as a cheese gougère or parsley ham as a starter. For cheese lovers, opt for a fresh goat cheese or a Brillat-Savarin.
