At Al Falah Center, we uphold the sacred duty of Zakat — the third pillar of Islam — by offering a trustworthy, compassionate system for both collecting and distributing Zakat funds. Your Zakat reaches local individuals and families in genuine need, helping uplift and stabilize our community in accordance with Islamic teachings.

What is Zakat?
Zakat means both “purification” and “growth”. It purifies our wealth by redistributing a portion of it to those less fortunate and helps grow our spiritual connection to Allah (SWT) and society.
    • Obligatory (Fard) for Muslims whose wealth exceeds the Nisab
    • Paid annually at 2.5% of qualifying savings and assets
    • Acts as a form of social justice and economic balance in Islamic society

Who Should Pay Zakat?
Zakat is obligatory on Muslims who:
    • Have wealth exceeding the Nisab (minimum threshold)
    • Possess this wealth for one full lunar year
    • Have assets like cash, gold/silver, business goods, or investments
Nisab (Minimum Wealth Threshold):
    • Gold: 85 grams (~3 oz) or equivalent in cash
    • Silver: 595 grams (~21 oz) or equivalent in cash Whichever is lower may be used, depending on scholars’ opinions.
How to Calculate Zakat
Zakat is 2.5% of:
    • Cash & Savings (any currency)
    • Gold & Silver (including jewelry not in regular use)
    • Stocks & Investments (if accessible or liquidated)
    • Business Assets (inventory and profit, not machinery or real estate)
    • Retirement Accounts (when accessed or based on ownership structure)

No Zakat is due on personal-use items like your home, car, furniture, or clothing.

Who Can Receive Zakat?  
As outlined in the Qur’an (9:60), Zakat can be given to:
    1. The poor and needy
    2. The destitute
    3. Those employed to collect/distribute Zakat
    4. New Muslims in financial difficulty
    5. Those in debt with no means to repay
    6. Travelers in need
    7. Those striving in the path of Allah
    8. Those working to free captives or pay for emancipation

Note: Zakat must only be distributed to eligible individuals. It cannot be used for general masjid expenses, salaries (unless for Zakat management), or construction.

How to Give Zakat Through Al Falah Center

All Zakat funds are distributed locally first, with 100% confidentiality and oversight by our trusted Zakat Committee.

Zakat al-Fitr (Fitrah)  
Zakat al-Fitr is a mandatory charity due before Eid al-Fitr prayer — for every Muslim (man, woman, or child) who can afford it.
    • Amount per person: $10–$18 (varies by year)
    • Paid by the head of household on behalf of all dependents
    • Must be paid before Eid prayer

Fitrah can be paid in cash or equivalent grain/food value.

Why Pay Zakat?    
Zakat is not a tax. It’s an act of worship, just like prayer and fasting. It purifies your wealth, brings barakah (blessing), and uplifts others.
The Prophet ﷺ said:

        “Charity is a necessity for every Muslim…”
        “Even smiling at your brother is charity…”
         (Hadith: Bukhari & Muslim)
